I being the MIA Member since 2008, recently used the Professional Support Team Services in relation to the case matter of my client whose student visa refused within 2 weeks of submisson on the grounds of medical examination not conducted. This was completely nightmare and clearly a jurisdictional error as the issue of visa expiry, briding visa matter, decison to lodge appeal or not within the prescribed time frame and most importantly the education of last few units to be completed very soon. So, even the favourable outcome in the future would not any benefit to student. Other than I used all my professional resouces in direction, I contacted the MIA Professional Support Team to escalate the matter with the departmental head and MIA did the fanatastic job and regularly in contact with me with all the possible solutions with the concept of pros and cons regarding timelines. Finally, the refusal decision was revoked just few days brefore the ART appeal time frame and that was a big relief for myself and client. Their team responded promptly, followed up directly with the Department, and ensured the refusal decision was vacated as quickly as possible. The CPD I attended today - Understanding Ministerial Intervention - was extremely valuable even for an old hand like me. The presenter was experienced and knowledgeable, articulate, coherent and understandable. It is important to have a presenter who enunciates clearly. She also answered questions with precision and accuracy and was pleasant and respectful in her responses. This was a very useful session. The written Handbook is excellent. I commend the presenter and the content. Thank you to the MIA for the session.
I started my membership with MIA as a student. Recently, I joined MIA as a full member. All through, the service provided by MIA has been outstanding. The newsletters are so informative. It would be impossible to wotk in migration without them. In terms of staff, Nansi Bagnato, the main contact person at MIA is so lovely to deal with. As a lawyer and RMA the support provided by our membership is reliable certainly assists the community of agents - and our clients maintain a professional standard. Grumpy staff and poor service may be the experience of some - however the community should understand MIA is not a provider of services, immigration advice or assistance to individuals, it supports others to do this professionally. I could definately remove 1 or 2 stars if i was considering how effectively they monitor their members compliance with the standards or code - but i'm not... that's not my role as a MIA member. Of course - membership is increasing by a couple of hundred for no reason... so perhaps a different review when that happens! LOL.
