Today I'd like to share my journey in becoming a Security Assistant (SA) with my partner, with two occupation codes: Engineer Technologist (my SA) and Civil Engineer + claiming 3 years of experience (my husband's SA). Hopefully, this can inspire others who are preparing to become SAs. We hold a 462 visa, graduated from Da Nang University of Technology, my major is Biotechnology Engineer and my husband graduated in Civil Engineering. Hoping to find a way to stay in Australia, after researching many groups and receiving advice from experienced people, we decided to pursue state sponsorship. We started researching SA applications at the end of 2023 and independently prepared our application documents to submit to VET under the Food Technologist occupation code (we planned to submit mine first to see how it went). At the end of June, I failed the entrance exam, with the reason given being that my major wasn't suitable for the Food Technologist program, lacking relevant courses despite my three years of experience in the food industry in Vietnam. At this point, we were very confused about what to do. Through friends' recommendations and reviews on various online groups, we contacted Skill Direct and Anh Tuan Do hoping to get a 5-point visa for my partner. In July 2024, after receiving clearer guidance from Anh Tuan, we decided to become SAs for both of us at Skill Direct. Regarding my part: I became a SA for the Engineer Technologist program, with the EA (Expert Advisor) review center. My team and I at Skill Direct started preparing the application in August 2024. At that time, I didn't have a PTE 50 in all bands, so I mainly focused on studying for the English exam. Therefore, we didn't lodge his application until January 2025. Both of us applied using fast track. Hi everyone, I received a positive outcome from EA for my SA position in Environmental Engineering after nearly 3 months working with the Skill Direct team. Specifically, the time spent collecting and preparing documents, writing essays according to EA's required format, was 1.5 months. I submitted my application on December 17, 2025, following a fast track. Due to the Christmas and New Year holidays, there was a delay before the application reached the assessor. The "Awaiting Assessment" status lasted until January 20, 2026 (about a month from the submission date), before I checked and saw it had changed to "Assessment In Progress." The company notified me the results the very next day. It was quite a long wait, but EA's assessment speed was much faster than I expected! My background: I graduated with a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering degree from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. Luckily, my university is Level 1, so it was a bit easier as I didn't need to take a Graduate Diploma or Cert, nor did I need relevant occupation experience.
