I came in with a full software engineering background, over ten years of building production systems, hoping for a polite conversation about overseas opportunities that matched my actual skill set. Instead I got a comedy show worthy of a streaming special. Their headline offer was nothing short of breathtaking. A fast food position at McDonalds for the generous sum of 33000 USD per year. Truly the role every senior engineer dreams of after spending a decade shipping mobile apps and administering bare metal infrastructure. I was almost moved to tears by their thoughtful matching service. Even better, all I had to do to unlock this golden ticket was hand over 18000 USD upfront and then patiently wait three whole years for it to materialize. Because nothing screams legitimate recruitment agency like asking a working professional to pay more than half of his proposed first year salary before he even sets foot on a plane, and then casually mentioning a multi year waiting period as if that were perfectly industry standard. I asked a very simple question. How much is that in LKR roughly. A basic courtesy, a small conversion for someone trying to understand the scale of the financial commitment being demanded. Apparently this question was offensive enough that I did not receive a polite answer. I suppose proper customer service is reserved for clients who do not ask inconvenient math. Then I made the additional mistake of wondering aloud why so many Sri Lankans are looking to go abroad for work in the first place. A fairly obvious observation that anyone with a fortune already in hand would not be lining up to scrub fryers overseas. Rather than answer with a hint of empathy or professionalism, the response was essentially that they are visa consultants not a bank. Charming. Exactly the warm welcoming attitude you want from people who have just asked you to wire them eighteen thousand US dollars. A small technical note for anyone trying to verify this agency before committing their savings. Their advertised landline forwards to a completely different number for reasons no honest business should ever need. Their WhatsApp calls also drop constantly, apparently because they are running on a mobile 4G connection, while my fiber line has zero issues calling anyone else on the planet. Very reassuring level of operational competence from people promising to handle your immigration paperwork in a foreign country. The whole interaction felt eerily familiar. Anyone who has been following the recent Hiru coverage of the foreign manpower scandal currently being investigated would notice the pattern almost immediately. Massive upfront fees, vague underwhelming job offers wildly mismatched to the applicant qualifications, rude dismissive communication, forwarded phone numbers, multi year waits with no guarantees. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck and asks for eighteen thousand dollars in advance, perhaps it is worth flagging to the relevant authorities. Which is exactly what I intend to do. Save your money. Save your time. Save yourself the indignity of being offered a burger flipping job after presenting a senior engineering CV. There are real agencies out there. This is not one of them.

I had a very disappointing experience with “The Visa Center.” After my New Zealand visit visa was initially declined, I approached them for assistance and paid a significant amount of money based on their advice. They claimed to handle my case through an immigration lawyer and asked for additional payments, which I trusted and provided. However, the entire process took an unnecessarily long time, and communication was extremely poor. My emails, calls, and messages were often ignored or answered very late without clear updates. In the end, despite all the promises and additional documents submitted, my visa was declined again. I feel misled and frustrated with the lack of transparency, professionalism, and proper guidance. I would not recommend this place to anyone seeking reliable visa assistance.
