Update (two years later): Now that I have been through the whole skilled visa process, I want to add an honest update. First, credit where it is due. Everyone I worked with remained professional and helpful throughout. The casework itself was solid: a difficult skills assessment was handled well, fees were staged as agreed in the contract, and the case was actively managed for a long time without extra charges. None of my criticism is about the quality of the work or about money. My issue is with how my prospects were communicated at the consultation stage. This is about the agency’s approach, not about any individual team member. I asked directly about my chances with my occupation, which is web design. The answer was vague, along the lines of “it’s hard to say, the numbers change from year to year.” No guarantees were given, and I accepted that. I fully understand that nobody can promise selection, and I was not expecting a prediction or a percentage. But there is a difference between predicting the future and describing the past. Invitation history, occupation ceilings and state lists for previous years were public information at the time. What I learned much later, from other agents and from people in my own field, is that my occupation had historically received very few invitations, and my realistic chances were low from the very beginning, well before the 2026 program changes. Based on my own research, my personal estimate is around 5-10%. Everyone I asked reached that conclusion quickly, using only information that existed before my consultation. If the consultation had included that historical picture, something like “nobody can predict the future, but this occupation has historically received very few invitations, here is what past rounds looked like,” I would not have proceeded. That framing requires no forecast and no invented numbers. It was possible, and it is the one thing that would have changed my decision. Instead, I discovered it on my own, years and a significant amount of money later. I am not writing this because of the outcome. I am writing it because an honest picture of your starting position is exactly what a paid consultation is for, and I feel I did not get one. My advice to anyone considering any migration agency: before paying, ask how your specific occupation has performed in past invitation rounds, and ask for it in writing. It is the one question I wish I had pressed.

On the other hand, the list of employers already approved by the authorities for participation in the regional program in Townsville is much longer. Also, as far as I understand, the librarian profession falls under Group 1 of the classification, and mandatory qualification assessment is not required. However, it will likely be easier to find an employer with a positive assessment... Therefore, considering all the pros and cons, it might be worth striving to confirm both professions and, of course, searching for an employer... Therefore, as is usually the case when pursuing a goal, additional questions arise as you explore the situation, so it is crucial to enlist the help and support of true professionals along the way.
