How to get more enquiries as a migration agency
Be findable for the work you want, answer fast, and never promise an outcome. What actually turns directory visitors into clients.

Where do migration enquiries actually come from?
For most practices, the biggest source is still word of mouth: former clients, community networks, employers, education providers and other professionals. Directories are usually the second channel, and they behave differently. People who find you there have typically never heard of you, are comparing several agencies side by side, and are judging you on what your listing shows in the first thirty seconds.
| Source | What the person already knows | What wins them over |
|---|---|---|
| Former client referral | Your name and a personal recommendation | A quick, warm reply |
| Professional referral (employer, college, accountant) | That you handle their kind of matter | Reliability and clear fees |
| Directory browsing | Your registration, rating and location | A complete profile and recent reviews |
| Request help on migrationagent.review | Only that you were matched to their matter | A fast, specific, honest first reply |
| Your own website | Whatever your site tells them | Proof from elsewhere, such as your listing and reviews |

How does Request help matching work?
Anyone can ask for help through the Request help form, either from the site header or from a "Request help" button on an agency's card. They describe their matter, choose a category — partner or family, skilled, employer sponsored, student or graduate, visitor, citizenship or permanent residency, refusal or review, or other — and confirm their email address. Once confirmed, the request is matched with up to five agencies.
- 01Your own listing first
If the request started from your agency's card, your agency is always included.
- 02Agencies not accepting clients are left out
Listings marked "not currently accepting" are excluded from general matching.
- 03Claimed and featured agencies get priority
Claimed listings come well ahead of unclaimed ones, and an active Featured placement adds further priority.
- 04Specialisations and location count
Your specialisations are compared with the request category, and agencies in the requester's city and state rank ahead of those elsewhere.
- 05The request appears in your dashboard
Matched requests show on the Requests page with the person's details. Contact them, then mark the request as contacted so your team knows it has been handled.
Write your specialisations in the plain words clients use: "partner visas", "skilled migration", "employer sponsored", "student visas", "tribunal reviews". A list of subclass numbers alone is harder for both people and matching to read. Full details are on how we rank agencies.
Is our listing ready to turn visitors into enquiries?
An unclaimed listing shows your register facts and little else. You can't open matched requests until you claim it, you can't send review invites, and gives a visitor no reason to choose you over the claimed agency next to it. Claiming is free: open your profile from the directory, choose "Claim this listing", and verify with a work email on your website's domain.

What a prospective client looks for on your profile
- A description in plain English of who you help and how you work
- Specialisations that match their kind of visa
- Languages spoken, which matter enormously to many applicants
- Office hours and whether you are accepting new clients
- Recent reviews, including how you handle the occasional critical one
- A logo and cover image that make it look like a real, current practice
How should we reply to a new enquiry?
- 01Reply the same day
Even a short acknowledgement with a time to talk beats a detailed reply three days later.
- 02Show you read their request
Refer to their visa category and situation. A generic template tells them you are working through a list.
- 03Be clear about the next step and its cost
If your initial consultation is charged, say so and say how much. Surprises about fees are a common theme in negative reviews.
- 04Say so if it isn't for you
If the matter is outside your experience or needs a lawyer, tell them promptly. They will remember it, and so may the people they talk to.
What can't we say to win the work?
Competition for enquiries creates pressure to oversell. Resist it. Registered agents are bound by the Code of Conduct, which expects honesty with clients about their prospects and prohibits misleading or deceptive conduct, and the Australian Consumer Law applies to your marketing as well. Statements like "guaranteed visa", "100% success rate" or "we know people at the department" are the kind of claims that create real trouble, and applicants are increasingly taught to treat them as warning signs.
You can talk about your experience, the kinds of matters you handle and how you work. You can't promise an outcome you don't control, and you shouldn't publish results that imply one.
The enquiry you win with an honest assessment of someone's chances is the client who leaves a good review whatever the decision.
Is Featured placement worth it for enquiries?
It depends on your city and capacity. Featured placement puts a clearly labelled card at the top of one city directory page, adds a visibility boost in ranked results, and gives you priority in Request help matching. At A$50 a month with no lock-in, it pays for itself if it brings in a single client over several months — but only if you can answer the extra enquiries quickly and your profile is already complete.
Do the free things first: claim your listing, fill in your profile, set your availability and start collecting reviews. If you then want more visibility in a particular city, Featured is a disclosed way to get it, and you can cancel from your dashboard at any time.
How do we tell what's working?
Ask every new client how they found you and record it in your file notes. After a few months you will see which sources bring in work and which bring in enquiries that never convert. For directory enquiries specifically, track how many matched requests you received, how many you contacted, and how many became paid consultations.
Your dashboard also lets you add a listing badge to your own website linking to your profile, so visitors to your site can see your reviews and registration. And because reviews feed both your ranking and your conversion, the most reliable long-term lever is the one in our guide on getting more client reviews. Frequently asked questions
How many agencies see each Request help enquiry?
Each confirmed request is matched with up to five published agencies. If the person started from your listing, your agency is always one of them; the rest are chosen by location, specialisations, availability, claim status and featured status.
Do we have to pay to receive matched requests?
No. Matched requests are free. An unclaimed agency can still be matched, but needs to claim its listing, also free, to open the request. Featured agencies get priority in matching, but it isn't required.
How quickly should we reply to an enquiry?
The same business day if you can. People asking for migration help often contact several agencies at once, and the first useful, honest reply tends to win the consultation.
Can we tell an enquirer their visa is likely to be granted?
Give an honest view of their prospects, but never guarantee or imply a guaranteed outcome. Visa decisions are made by the department, and the Code of Conduct expects agents not to make misleading statements about a client's chances.
What if we're not taking new clients for a while?
Set your availability to "not currently accepting" in your dashboard. You will be left out of general request matching until you change it back, which is better than leaving enquiries unanswered.
